Carpenter Ants
Carpenter Ants are large brown or black ants
that mainly live in wooded areas of the country. They can however enter
your home and once there can do a lot of damage.
Signs of Carpenter Ants
1. Winged Flying Ants. If you see large winged
ants, you probably have a large colony around. The winged ants are the
breeders.
2. Sawdust: You will often see sawdust around
where the ants have been working.
3. Clicking Noises: Sometimes it is possible
to hear the ants chewing inside your wall. It may sound like a rustling
noise.
4. Small slit like openings in wood.
Preventing Carpenter Ants
1. Trim tree branches back away from your
home.
2. Provide good ventilation to damp areas. Do
not allow wood to remain damp.
3. Clear gutters and keep them free of debris.
4. Fix water leaks promptly.
5. Do not allow wood to contact the ground and
have a barrier between wood and masonry when possible.
6. Set up a regular pest control schedule.
